Did you know that elephants are the largest mammals that
live on land? They are! And that’s one reason why they need
space and freedom. An elephant needs vast open space to
live and feed. They should never be caged in or put on display.
Did you know that elephants are family-oriented? Elephants
live in families called “herds.” The family is headed up by a
“matriarch,” the oldest female elephant in the herd. Girl
power! Elephants form strong, lifelong bonds. For this reason,
they should never be forced to live in isolation. They are
extremely social animals and are very unhappy leading
solitary lives.
Did you know that elephants talk to each other? Elephants
communicate through “trumpeting.” They make “tummy
rumbles” to chat with each other! Elephants are very
intelligent. We should respect this intelligence by saying no to
foolish “circus tricks,” kiddie rides, and the horrors of
elephant training—all of which degrade them.
